… and Implants Are the Best Solution

Tooth loss is more common among adults than you might think. Missing teeth often cause patients to hide their smiles and feel embarrassed about the way they look. If your confidence is suffering because of a missing tooth or teeth, it’s time to consider dental implants.

3 Main Benefits of Dental Implants

Better Oral Health

One of the consequences of tooth loss is bone atrophy, which can lead to a sunken and aged facial appearance. By replacing the missing roots of a tooth, implants help you maintain a strong, healthy jawbone and protect your long-term oral health.

Maximum Stability

Implants fuse to the jawbone and secure prosthetic replacement teeth with unparalleled stability. Unlike traditional dentures which rely on suction and adhesives, your implant-supported restoration will never slip out of place.

Durable Results

Dr. Schlaikjer offers implants made from incredibly strong materials including medical-grade titanium and zirconia. As long as you practice good dental care and attend regular visits to the dentist, your implants can last a lifetime.

So What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are small posts designed to replace missing tooth roots. Once they are inserted into the jawbone, they fuse with the tissue and become a permanent part of your oral structures. When the site has completely healed, your dentist will attach abutments and your custom crown, bridge, or denture, giving you the appearance and function of natural teeth.

Qualifying for Dental Implants

Patients will first attend a consultation with the dentist at our St. Louis practice to find out if they qualify for treatment. Important considerations include:

Sufficient Bone Density

If you’ve had a missing tooth for an extended period of time, you may have some degree of bone loss. To give your implants a more stable foundation, we can perform bone grafting at our St. Louis office to strengthen the treatment area.

Good Oral Health

Other than tooth loss, patients should have good oral health. Dr. Schlaikjer can provide any necessary treatment for periodontal disease and may recommend extractions if any remaining teeth are compromised by decay.

Non-Smokers

Smoking affects the natural healing process and increases the risk of complications from implant surgery. If you do smoke, you will need to quit several months prior to getting dental implants and refrain over the long term to ensure the procedure’s success.

Generally Healthy

In order to receive dental implants, patients must undergo oral surgery. Certain medical conditions like uncontrolled diabetes and autoimmune disorders can increase the chance of treatment failure, so it is important that you are in good health.

Convert Your Existing Denture

Do you already have removable dentures? Are you frustrated with the noises, movement, and embarrassing moments that can happen as a result? An implant-supported denture looks more natural, stays in place, and helps keep your jawbone healthy and strong.

If your denture is in good condition, we can often stabilize it using dental implants. Adjustments are made to the base of the denture to accommodate abutments and connect to your dental implants. You can speak with our dentist about this option during your consultation at our St. Louis dental practice.

Your Custom Treatment Plan

Dental implants can treat all types of tooth loss:

Single Tooth

Are you missing a single tooth? A single implant can support a dental crown to complete your smile without affecting the surrounding natural teeth.

Multiple Missing Teeth

If you have two or three missing teeth in a row, we will place two or more implants to support a dental bridge, while individual crowns can repair any remaining gaps.

Full Arch

We Provide the Most Advanced Dental Implant Treatment With the Yomi Robotic System

We are constantly looking for new ways to improve our techniques, standards of care, and overall patient experience for the St. Louis community. One of the exciting technologies that has helped us stay at the forefront of restorative dentistry is Yomi®, the first and only FDA-cleared robotic guidance system for implant dentistry.

Yomi is a revolutionary tool that makes implant surgery quicker and more precise than ever before. We’re proud to be the first dental practice not just in the St. Louis area, but in the entire state of Missouri, to make this technology available to our patients. Take a closer look at the ways that Yomi has transformed the implant surgery process:

Haptic Guidance

Yomi offers response cues that help Dr. Schlaikjer have a better feel for the implant placement procedure than ever before. Throughout surgery, Yomi will provide physical and auditory feedback to let Dr. Schlaikjer know that the titanium implant posts are entering the jaw at the exact angle that’s best for the patient’s unique facial anatomy while preventing over-drilling past the pre-planned depth. The result is unparalleled stability for both the implants and tooth restorations they support.

Safety Standards

Implant placement is a delicate procedure, and Yomi helps surgeons ensure that surgery is going smoothly, safely, and effectively. When an implant reaches optimal depth in the jaw, Yomi will provide an audio cue to move no further. Yomi can also help reduce the risk of human error by physically preventing the surgeon from deviating from your predetermined treatment plan.

Quicker Treatment

Yomi’s precise planning eliminates the need for traditional surgical guides, which can take about a week to prepare. This means that many patients can immediately undergo the implant placement procedure. You’ll experience greater efficiency during surgery as well. With Yomi, Dr. Schlaikjer can place a full arch of implants in 90 minutes or two full arches of implants in two and a half hours.

Easier Recovery

Precise dental implant placement with Yomi means smaller gumline incisions that rarely need sutures to heal. While it will still take about four to six months for your implants to fuse with your jaw, the incisions in your gums can heal much more quickly than if your implants were placed using traditional methods. This equates to a smoother, more comfortable recovery process.
